Youth Empowerment Support Worker

Employment Type – Casual 7 weeks per school term 

Location – Based in Pukekohe; however, travel between local schools.  

Reports to – Social Worker Jessica  

Hours – 8am to 2:30pm (6.5hrs), approx. 25 – 30 hours per week. 

Start Date – Early March on completion of a clear Police Vet 

Remuneration – $28.95 Living Wage  

 

About our Organisation: 

Mai Lighthouse is seeking a Youth Empowerment Support Worker to join our dedicated team helping the community of Franklin. Our organisation is a registered charity and provide wrap-around support to those in need. This includes Social Workers, Counselling, Budgeting, a Volunteer Driver Programme, Parenting and Domestic Violence programmes, alongside a range of other smaller supports such as our JP service.

Purpose of the Role: 

The role exists to support the effective delivery of the youth empowerment programme by providing practical, administrative, and student wellbeing support. This includes assisting with day-to-day operations, ensuring student safety and wellbeing, maintaining accurate observation, and fostering positive relationships that promote the personal development, health, and confidence of young people. You will be supporting the social worker who runs the programme each day.  

This is a casual contract with work available for 7 weeks per term while the programme runs. The hours per day will fluctuate depending on which schools are involved.  

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Pick up and drop off  Pick up and drop off to be conducted safely and on time, ensuring authorised passengers are collected and returned to authorised location.  
  • Food Shop / Prep – Prepare packed lunches (sandwiches and light snacks) as required, always maintain cleanliness and food safety.
  • Vehicle Maintenance – to include fuel levels, regular vehicle inspections (checking for tagging, holes in upholstery, rubbish, and overall condition). Ensure mileage stickers are current and clearly displayed.
  • Building Healthy Relationships – Support the development of healthy relationships with young people through positive role-modelling, encouragement, active listening, and respectful communication. Report any wellbeing concerns, including indicators of self-harm, behaviour, or emotional distress.
  • Admin Support –   Provide programme administrative support including accurate and confidential documentation of student observations  

Your Daily role:  

Collect van, van inspection, collect students, transport to venue, prep food, provide support to social worker, return students to school, van inspection/maintenance, other admin tasks as directed by Mai Lighthouse.
